Comets That Only Show Up Once
Not every comet plans on a return trip. Eros swings out past Mars and back toward Earth's neighborhood roughly every twenty-one months, close enough to count as a near-Earth object rather than a strict belt-dweller. That makes it the rare asteroid with an actual itinerary instead of a fixed address: not a one-time flyby like a long-period comet, not a permanent fixture like Ceres or Vesta, but a rock that commutes.
